Progress. Tomorrow.

Progress. Tomorrow.

People.

Many of them.

One on top of the other.

Living.

Sleeping.

People.

On top of people.

On top of these stores.

These shops.

These worlds beneath them.

With People

above them.

These worlds

above them.

Living.

In an old world.

An apartment building

with a lamppost.

Old.

Old as Narnia.

Yet, comes the sun.

Sunset.

A new dawn tomorrow.

A new beginning tomorrow.

Change.

New lampposts.

New shops.

Change.

New, tomorrow.

But still,

People.

Living.

Worlds

on top of

each other.

And progress.

And new dawns.

And change.

But, tomorrow.

This image was interesting to me mostly for its composition and content. The sunset glaring off of the building created an interesting composition that could've been interpreted in a great number of ways. I, in this poem, have described the building as old because of the old looking streetlamp. However, there are many other ways to interpret it, other than the progress coming tomorrow being needed. For example, it could be interpreted, while keeping with the lamp representing old times, that the old times are golden. This is because the building, which is being labeled as old by the streetlamp, is glowing golden in the sun. Also, it could be viewed as a message to the world to hold on to old architecture because it creates beautiful cities. The old design of the streetlamp coupled with the more modern building creates a beautiful contrast of old and new that fits very well. Also, a case could be made for the shops at the bottom interrupting the beautiful composition, and therefore the theme could be one of retail such as those shops doing harm to communities. Clearly, there are a lot of ways to view this shot.
